Yoga Sadhana vs. Asana Class
Sādhana (साधना) means “a method” or “discipline” and refers to a dedicated spiritual practice or pursuit. It’s the path to inner transformation. While many yoga classes in the West focus on asana (physical poses), Yoga Sādhana is a holistic practice that addresses not only the body but also the mind and spirit. It’s an authentic practice that you might experience at an ashram in India.
Through Yoga Sādhana, we cultivate balance, strength, and mindfulness in every breath, movement, and thought. It’s not just about the mat—it’s about living with intention and purpose. Each typical session lasts 75 to 90 minutes and includes:
- Gentle warm-up
- Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations)
- Asanas (sequenced based on approach)
- Pranayama (Breathwork)
- Guided meditation or visualization
- Shavasana (ideally with a sound bath)
